How often should I test my emergency lighting?

Emergency lighting must be tested in accordance with BS 5266:

  • Monthly: a short functional test to ensure each light operates correctly
  • Annually: a full three-hour duration test
  • All results must be recorded in your fire logbook

EPS carries out testing, maintenance and documentation fully in line with the relevant British Standards to keep your building compliant and safe.

What premises or businesses need emergency lighting and why is it important?

Most commercial and multi-occupancy buildings are legally required to have emergency lighting. This includes:

  • Offices, factories and warehouses
  • Schools, hospitals and public buildings
  • Shops, restaurants and hospitality venues
  • Blocks of flats and HMOs

Emergency lighting is essential because it provides safe, illuminated escape routes during a power failure, fire or emergency situations, helping occupants evacuate quickly and reducing risk to life.

EPS ensures your emergency lighting is correctly designed, positioned and fully compliant with the relevant British Standards.
